kim + titus featured on 100 layer cake

30 Aug

just over two years ago i had the pleasure of working on the amazing wedding of kim and titus at gramercy park hotel. the hotel’s roof terrace already packs a dramatic punch with its decor and furnishings, so we didn’t have to do much except add flowers and plenty of candlelight. a classic photobooth was a huge hit (duh) and kim surprised titus with a traditional chinese lion dance about halfway through the reception. gotta love a bride with a plan. cheers to the happy couple! it was an honor to be a part of your big day.

you can see the full feature over on 100 layer cake. thanks to heather waraska for sharing her gorgeous photos!

“tunes”day: ‘river deep-mountain high’

30 Aug

i think this is my first “tunes”day post devoted to a song for a recessional. that moment when you walk back up the aisle, married and completely blissed out. choose a fittingly upbeat and festive song. wow your guests with some pizazz to get them geared up for all of the celebrating that’s just minutes away.

‘river deep-mountain high’ is my new ‘ain’t no mountain high enough’. same metaphors, yet not as overplayed in my books.

i also love the amped up version from the cast of glee. the addition of horns in the intro would literally blow people away.

“tunes”day: ‘all i want is you’

23 Aug

as a wedding guest i’m always excited to find out what song the couple has selected to dance their first dance to. so when my friends got hitched the week before last i was pleasantly surprised to hear some u2 as they hit the dance floor. i gotta confess, i never really thought of u2 songs as love songs, but hearing ‘all i want is you’ in that context totally changed my mind. i really like the arena rock sound and the build up from the super mellow strings-and-vocals beginning to the full-on rock song it becomes three minutes in.

in the bag

21 Aug

looking for a gift to give your girls? what about a customized tote bag? longchamp offers great customizing options. pick out different color combinations for each of your bridesmaids and put their names on them in either embroidery or embossing. it’s a great gift to give ahead of time, so they can use them to carry all of their stuff to the bridal suite to have handy when they get all dolled up.

you can pick from a few shapes and sizes within the “le pliage” series of bags and pouches. i designed this one in a flash, choosing to keep it all in one color and have my name stitched on in white. the total? $185 and it’d arrive within 5 weeks.

“tunes”day: ‘parachutes’

16 Aug

i am gonna keep it short and sweet this week. as in, 48 seconds total. i went retro and was listening to some of coldplay’s older albums recently. when ‘parachutes’ came on it instantly triggered a visual of a bride walking down an aisle to her groom-to-be. granted, the aisle couldn’t be too long!
